The coves of Monopoli (especially those to the south) are among the most beautiful in all of Puglia. If you have time, we recommend visiting several, or if the weather isn’t too hot and you’re feeling up for it, you can even walk along the rocky coastline heading south. In addition to the coves, most of which are now equipped, you’ll also find caves (both marine and terrestrial), pine forests, and Mediterranean scrub. It’s difficult to rank the best equipped beaches in Monopoli, but let’s give it a try.
Cala Paradiso
A charming sandy bay equipped with umbrellas, beach volleyball and beach soccer courts. There is also a restaurant with a pizzeria, a snack bar, and a nightclub under the stars. It’s very popular with young people.
Calamarena
Some describe this stretch of coast as “untouched” and “wild.” Locals love it, but don’t expect to find sand—only rocks, grass, good food, and a beautiful atmosphere. Sunbeds and umbrellas are available for rent, along with a bar offering a menu of typical Apulian dishes. If you love simplicity and nature, this beach is for you.
Cala Cerasa
Right next to Calamarena, this lido has the same characteristics: no sand and access to the sea from a cove. The sea is enchanting and crystal-clear, though it’s hard to find a beach in Monopoli with anything less than stunning water. This terraced lido is very popular with locals in their 30s and is furnished in an alternative/vintage style, similar to Lullabay in Ostuni. In the evening, there are concerts and music.
Cala Diavolo
A sandy and rocky beach with shallow waters, lots of music, plenty of drinks, and a lively young crowd.
Lido Santo Stefano
Near the ancient Abbey of Santo Stefano, this beach is set in a unique historical and natural context. The sea here is clear, and the beach is well-equipped with various services, including sunbed and umbrella rentals, bars, and restaurants.
Lido Belli Freschi
A popular equipped beach among young people, characterized by a lively and relaxed atmosphere. It offers umbrellas, sunbeds, and a bar serving fresh drinks and simple dishes. It’s the perfect spot for those seeking fun, music, and relaxation in the sun, with crystal-clear water and a pleasant environment.
